Training


The IMPA offers seminars and workshops where the country’s top production experts demonstrate the latest techniques and technology.

Additionally, the IMPA furthers Iowa workforce development through regional business planning processes and the training of entry-level workers by experienced IMPA members.

Grip 101
Students who successfully complete the training will be qualified to work as production assistants or apprentice grips under the supervision of experienced key grips.

Shooting Scripts
The IMPA and Iowa Scriptwriters Alliance collaborate to create short films in a workshop setting.

Makeup Application Tips and Techniques for Actors and Non-actors Alike

Actors will learn how to apply their own makeup for auditions, interviews and go-sees in addition to the basics needed to apply their own makeup on a low-budget shoot. This class is also idea for non-actors who are interested in receiving up-to-date makeup application tips and techniques to improve their own application.

Special Effects Seminar

Attendees will receive an informative overview of what special effects are. Included will be a discussion and brief history of the categories  of special effects, a synopsis of various pioneers and specialists in this field, video-taped examples of films and local productions. Attedees will gain a general knowledge of what is involved in creating special effects, how to plan for them, and what can be accomplished.

IMPA Network Night

Thursday, January 19, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Java Joe's in downtown Des Moines - This FREE event is open to IMPA members and the general public. It's a chance to learn more about the production industry in Iowa. Compare notes on a project you're doing (or would like to do) with others in the industry.
