Charles F. Larimer – Writer/Director/Producer. The Love and Valor narrative documentary film is his first film of this length. He has taken courses at Chicago Filmmakers, Columbia College in Chicago, and the Chicago Academy for the Visual Arts (run by SMS Productions.)
His main connection to this film – he is the one who found the letters and then edited the book “Love and Valor – Intimate Civil War Letters Between Captain Jacob and Emeline Ritner,” on which this movie is based. He started researching the letters in 1993.
He anticipates that he will continue to research different aspects of the story for the rest of his life – “Thread stories” surface on a regular basis. Recent finds – in 2007 he discovered that Jacob Ritner’s Aunt Mary ran the boarding house in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania where the famous and fanatical abolitionist John Brown lived while planning his raid on Harpers Ferry. In 2009, the Civil War letters of Sergeant Wils Payne of Company B of the 25th Iowa Infantry surfaced – Wils Payne was the soldier in Jacob Ritner’s company whom Ritner most appreciated.
By profession Larimer is a healthcare actuary, and has a business background. He currently is a partner in Larimer & Wolf Consulting Actuaries, LLC located in Chicago, Illinois.
When the book first came out, he spoke to many Civil War Round Tables and other groups about the book. He believes that he is the first person of the Northern persuasion to ever address the Savannah Civil War Round Table.
