The Iowa Motion Picture Awards are hosted by the IMPA in recognition of outstanding creative and technical achievement in Iowa's moving image production industry, in all its forms. There are two levels of recognition. Nominees in each category will receive an Award of Achievement; and the winner in each category will receive the Award of Excellence.
The Keynote Speaker was Barry Morrow.

Barry Morrow's Emmy and Oscar winning screenwriting career began by being a remarkable human being. When Barry was 26, he met Bill Sackter, a mentally disabled man, at a Minnesota Country Club where Bill worked as a handy man. Eventually Barry became Bill’s guardian, moved him with his family to Iowa City and aided Bill in becoming sole proprietor of Wild Bill’s Coffee Shop. This experience inspired Barry’s Emmy award-winning script, "Bill" and the following one, “Bill: On His Own.”
Likewise, Barry’s relationship with Kim Peek inspired the character Raymond Babbit in his Oscar-winning screenplay, “Rain Man.”
A former Iowan, Barry is now a Producer and Screenwriter in Southern California. His screenplay, “Remember Sunday,” premiered on The Hallmark Channel earlier this year.
