Rules

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for an Iowa Motion Picture Award:

  • You must have been an Iowa resident, production company or production department between January 1 and December 31, 2009, except for entries submitted for the Feature Film Produced in Iowa Under the Iowa Film Promotion Program category.
  • The entry must have been completed between January 1, 2009 and March 1, 2010, except for entries submitted for the Feature Film Produced in Iowa Under the Iowa Film Promotion Program category.
  • You must possess creative control of the submitted work, or must have written approval from the appropriate individual or entity.
  • At least fifty percent (50%) of the total budget of the submitted entry has to have been spent in Iowa except for entries submitted for the Feature Film Produced in Iowa Under the Iowa Film Promotion Program category.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • All entries must be on DVD in NTSC video format.
  • Please ensure that the DVD plays back on multiple players in addition to the recorder/player on which it was made. DVD’s that don’t play during judging will be disqualified.
  • To ensure objectivity, all slates and company logos must be removed from the program for judging.
  • During judging, viewing is limited to no more than ten minutes per entry (unless otherwise indicated in the category description). If your program is more than ten minutes in length, please submit a continuous ten-minute excerpt that best represents your work.
  • Submit one DVD-R NTSC for all categories except documentary, entertainment short, and entertainment long, which require five DVD copies.
  • Please see special guidelines in certain categories.

JUDGING

  • There are up to two rounds of judging.
  • In the primary round, members of Iowa's
    production community screen all of the entries and select nominees.
  • The entries are rated on how well they achieve their stated objectives, as well as their creative and technical elements relative to the category.
  • Entries will be judged according to guidelines developed by industry professionals in each
    discipline and are available for review here.
  • If necessary, an additional round of judging of selected entries will draw upon an additional group of industry professionals.
